THE ULRIKEN COLLECTION
BERG means mountain in Norwegian and at the back of the watch case is mount Ulriken engraved. Ulriken is the highest out of the seven mountains surrounding the beautiful city of Bergen which is also known as "the gateway to the fjords".
The best minimalist fashion watch
The mission with BERG is to create the best minimalist fashion watch on the market. A watch that looks great on your wrist. That is why we have used a premium swiss-made movement from Ronda, a company that has created reliable quality movements since 1946. To avoid getting scratches on the glass we have chosen anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass, which also reduces the reflection of light to the glass of the watch.
Straps made of salmon leather from Iceland
The Berg watch straps are made out of salmon leather from Icelandic tannery, Atlantic Leather which was ranked the number one tannery in Europe in 2016. The salmon skin is 10 times stronger than regular leather and therefore will be more durable. The straps come in a wide range of colors, so that you are sure to find your favorite.
With our quick-release solution you are able to switch straps in just seconds. No tools needed. Make your watch go with your outfit everyday.
We chose to use salmon leather to create our rough and unique straps as it has a long history in the Norwegian leather industry. During World War II it was common in Norway to use salmon leather for shoes as it was so strong and durable. The idea of using salmon leather came from Eva Grung, the grandmother of our founder, Paal Friele Grung.
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
After a very successful Kickstarter launch with over 1 million NOK in pre-orders, we decided to launch a new watch for the World Cycling Championship in Bergen back in 2017. The watch collection was sold out in just 12 days and the limited edition watch design of 300 watches was ripped away by fans.
THE WORLDS FIRST DUMB PAYMENT WATCH IS BORN
After being interview by Norwegian Financial Times (Finansavisen) back in 2017 about the future of watches and where BERG would fit in, we decided to launch a watch collection connecting the dots of a smart watch and a dumb watch. We called it a hybrid watch. Using NFC technology from our partners at Fidesmo, BERG launched the first payment watch that was not a smart watch back in May 2019. It has taken some time, but we see more and more banks joining our partners at Fidesmo and Tieto Evry in the payment watch market. Today we offer both micro credit card options and RFID chip options for our watches. This was launched with our Holmenkollen watch design that is more of an urban design, inspired by the modern architecture of Oslo. The Holmenkollen watch was produced in 300 quartz watches and 50 automatic watches using ETA 2824-2 movements. It was the first BERG Watches to come with automatic movements.
BIRKEBEINER - A WATCH INSPIRED BY VIKING HISTORY
The Birkebeiner watch launched in 2019 and was inspired by the famous viking painting by Knud Larsen Bergslien from 1869. At the back of the case is a drawing inspired by the painting that shows Prince Haakon (later King Haakon) being carried to safety in Nidaros as the Bagler Vikings were chasing him down.
The Birkebeiner collection is the first BERG watch chronograph collection and was produced in a limited version of 300 watches.
