OUR SECOND COLLECTION SOLD OUT IN JUST 12 DAYS
Back in August of 2017 we launched our second watch collection on the Norwegian crowdfunding plattform Startskudd. In collaboration with DNB bank we decided to make a watch that cycling fans from all over the world could have as a memory of the World Cycling Championship. The championship occurred in Bergen, Norway in September of 2017.
It all started with our founder Paal talking to a friend regarding the event and how he wanted to set up a Berg pop-up shop during the event. Bergen has a small city center, so finding locations that were available looked impossible.
After talking for a while about the event the idea finally revealed itself. We had to make a cycling watch for the event as a memory of this amazing race.
It took some time to get the design perfect, making sure we could deliver in time for the race and actually selling the watches ahead of the event. As you know we didn't have a pop-up location.
We teamed up with DNB and Startskudd and decided to make a crowdfunding campaign for the watches. The local cycling team Ulriken Velo were kind enough to let us borrow their two most handsome cyclists to model for the watches.
Now all we needed was to sell the watches. We hadn't done any market research about this actually being a watch people wanted, so it could be a total failure as production had already started.
The week ahead of the launch we asked our Facebook community to contribute with their name suggestions. We picked 5 of our favorites and let the community decide through a vote. We ended up with the watch being called "Velo Jateé de Bergen" which is French for "Cycling Wharf of Bergen".
Once launched on Startskudd it got a flying start and the momentum just kept going. After just 12 out of the 30 days we had planned for the campaign to run, all 300 watches had been sold. We were overwhelmed by the reception we got from our new and old customers.
